Through a grant provided by the European Union, this conflict transformation collaboration is being enabled to keep the conversations going, develop resources, and support local activist peace-oriented media-based activities. We’re currently looking to fill the role of Community Outreach, Mobilisation, and Training Associate to be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where we have an exciting project on mobilising civic and digital action to counter social media hate speech and online incitement to violence in Ethiopia.

Requisite skills

To succeed in this role, you should:

  • Have excellent time management and communication skills, as you’ll collaborate with community groups and internal teams to deliver results as planned .  
  • Be self-driven and diligent in your roles.
  • Be fluent in English (written and spoken). Must be fluent in either Amhara, Tigrinya, or Afaan Oromo.
  • Have a university degree and analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have at least 3 years working experience in a context related to the job.

As the Community Outreach, Mobilisation, and Training Associate, you will work closely with our team “remotely and locally” to establish and maintain relationships with community leaders, local organisations, and community members.

You will perform various coordinating tasks and administrative duties. You will also monitor the support for the development and implementation of community-led initiatives and projects. You will maintain project documentation and handle financial queries. Ultimately, the Community Outreach, Mobilisation, and Training Associate’s duties are to facilitate dialogue and collaboration between stakeholders to promote conflict transformation.

In this role, you must:

  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability in working with diverse communities and understanding different cultural norms. 
  • Continuously learn about the local context and stay informed about socio-political dynamics and challenges in the project area.
  • Ensure that project activities and approaches are responsive to the local context.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

Community Outreach and Mobilization

  • Contribute to the development of a communications strategy.
  • Have a clear understanding of social media dynamics
  • Conduct community assessments to identify key stakeholders, community dynamics, and potential partners.
  • Organise community meetings, focus groups, and participatory events to understand community needs and perspectives.
  • Mobilise community members to participate in project activities, workshops, and events.
  • Collaborate with other project team members to integrate community perspectives into project planning and implementation.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and modules on conflict transformation, peacebuilding, and related topics.
  • Coordinate training sessions and workshops for community members, local organisations, and stakeholders.
  • Provide capacity-building support to community leaders and organisations on conflict resolution, mediation, and dialogue facilitation.
  • Advise on the contextualization of the training content to the specific community needs.
  • Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of training and capacity-building activities on participants and communities.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with the project team to identify and engage relevant stakeholders, such as government agencies, NGOs, and community-based organisations.
  • Organise and facilitate stakeholder meetings, workshops, and forums to gather input and foster dialogue.
  • Seek opportunities for partnerships and collaborations with local organisations and institutions.
  • Represent the project at relevant community events and engage in networking activities.
  • Create and maintain an up to date stakeholder database

Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of community engagement activities, training sessions, and meetings.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and contribute to project reporting requirements.
  • Document success stories, case studies, and lessons learned from community engagement and training initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing project-related communications materials, such as newsletters, reports, and presentations.
