On October 9th, 2024, an inspiring Entoto Peace Walk and Community Meetup at Entoto Natural Park, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event brought together 20 women community leaders to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through discussions: sisterhood, media literacy, and actionable solutions. Insights into GBV prevention; the influence of media; and empowering storytelling, were topics of the sessions. Bringing plans for creating safe online spaces and advocacy campaigns was adopted. #defyhatenow in Ethiopia seeks to support those voices acting against the conflict to go ‘viral’ within and outside the country – bringing the diaspora into the online peace building framework, bridging gaps of knowledge and awareness of social media mechanisms between those with access to technology and those without.
