Yaounde, January 4, 2024 – Civic Watch through the #defyhatenow initiative in Cameroon partners with the Member of Parliament for Buea Urban, Honourable Malomba Esembe, to co-organise a #StopBadMop campaign in Buea slated for Saturday January 6 at 9am. The caravan will be launched at Check-Point, Molyko, and then move in a motorcade upward to the office of the Divisional Officer (DO) of Buea’s office. The Drivers’ Union will lead the motorcade, alongside administrative, municipal and traditional authorities, accompanied by lovers of peace and well-wishers. The high mark of the event will be a public declaration and signing of the #HateFreeCameroon Pledge at the DO’s office. 

Public transport drivers are an essential part of our society, especially as they are the first contact persons one meets upon entering a town. Owing to the fact that drivers come from different backgrounds and cultures, it is important to understand the different experiences they encounter on a daily basis. It is worth noting that, there have been instances of discrimination and the use of hate languages towards people operating in this field of activity, usually leading to a negative and unsafe environment for both drivers and passengers. 

This one-day awareness raising tour of Municipality aims to reaffirm its long standing tradition as the “Town of Legendary Hospitality!” Buea is host to a buoyant tech economy globally known as the “Silicon Mountain”, an ever increasing student population and a host of institutions and relics that attract people from different parts of the globe. The #StopBadMop caravan seeks to reignite the culture of social cohesion among drivers and the population of Buea.

The caravan will be launched at Check-Point, Molyko, and then move in a motorcade upward to the office of the Divisional Officer (DO) of Buea’s office. The Drivers’ Unions will lead the motorcade, alongside administrative, municipal and traditional authorities. The high mark of the event will be a public declaration and signing of the #HateFreeCameroon Pledge at the DO’s office. 

ALL lovers of peace and well-wishers in Buea are encouraged to join the bandwagon and take little actions for peace by participating in this march. Your presence at Check-Point, Molyko and the Office of the Buea Divisional Officer will go a long way to kick out hate and along the slopes of Mount Fako.

Caravane #StopBapMop à Buea : Dénoncer TOUTES formes de discours de haine !

Yaoundé, le 4 janvier 2024 – Civic Watch à travers l’initiative #defyhatenow au Cameroun et le député de Buea Urban, l’honorable Malomba Esembe, co-organisent une campagne #StopBadMop à Buea prévue pour le samedi 6 janvier à 9 heures. La caravane sera lancée au Check-Point, Molyko, et se déplacera ensuite en cortège motorisé, avec pour destination la sous-préfecture de Buéa. Le syndicat des chauffeurs sera en tête du cortège, aux côtés des autorités administratives, municipales et traditionnelles, accompagnées d’amoureux de la paix et de sympathisants. Le point culminant de l’événement sera une déclaration publique et la signature de l’engagement #UnCamerounSansHaine à l’esplanade de la sous-préfecture. 

Les chauffeurs de transport public sont un élément essentiel de notre société, d’autant plus qu’ils sont les premières personnes que l’on rencontre en entrant dans une ville. Étant donné que les conducteurs sont issus de milieux et de cultures différents, il est important de comprendre les différentes expériences qu’ils vivent au quotidien. Il convient de noter qu’il y a eu des cas de discrimination et d’utilisation de propos haineux à l’encontre de personnes travaillant dans ce domaine d’activité, ce qui conduit généralement à un environnement négatif et dangereux pour les conducteurs et les passagers.

Cette campagne de sensibilisation d’une journée dans la municipalité vise à réaffirmer sa longue tradition de “ville à l’hospitalité légendaire”. Buea est l’hôte d’une économie technologique dynamique mondialement connue sous le nom de “Silicon Mountain”, d’une population étudiante en constante augmentation et d’une foule d’institutions et de reliques qui attirent des gens de différentes parties du globe. La caravane #StopBadMop vise à raviver la culture de la cohésion sociale parmi les conducteurs et la population de Buea.

Le point de départ de ladite caravane sera au Check-Point, Molyko, et se déplacera ensuite en cortège jusqu’à la sous-préfecture de Buéa. Les syndicats de conducteurs seront en tête du cortège, aux côtés des autorités administratives, municipales et traditionnelles. TOUS les amoureux de la paix et les sympathisants de Buea sont encouragés à rejoindre le train et à prendre de petites mesures pour la paix en participant à cette marche. Votre présence au Check-Point, à Molyko et à l’esplanade la sous-préfecture de Buéa contribuera grandement à contrer la haine le long des pentes du Mont Fako.
