Blogging for positive change in South Sudan

27th -28th July 2017
Nairobi, Kenya

Training South Sudanese bloggers (and would-be bloggers ) on the importance of blogging, this two-day workshop offers participants the basic understanding of how to set up a blog, giving an overview of citizen journalism and storytelling with specific ideas on how these can be used for positive messaging/change in South Sudan.

Presentations by the Kenyan Bloggers Association (BAKE) and independent writer Kendi Gikunda, the workshop will explore the possibilities of writing for impact and storytelling for a positive change. The group will examine the role of blogging in South Sudan, and learn the best practice for building a successful and ethical blog.

Participants will set up personal blogs and publish their own blog posts, and we will publish their articles on the #defyhatenow website after the workshop.

Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE):

A community association of Kenyan bloggers and content creators that promotes online content creation & free expression in Kenya.

Defyhatenow

#defyhatenow seeks to support those voices acting against the conflict to go ‘viral’ within and outside the country – bringing the South Sudanese diaspora into the online peacebuilding framework, bridging gaps of knowledge and awareness of social media mechanisms between those with access to technology and those without.
