Stephen Kovats

Stephen Kovats is director of r0g_agency for open culture & critical transformation, a non-profit organisation that applies open source and empowerment technologies for sustainable and hybrid forms of development in post-conflict and rapid transformation regions. Previously artistic director of transmediale, Berlin’s festival for art and digital culture, his current work with r0g_ and its international partners includes the #DefyHateNow initiative on mitigating social media hate speech and directed online incitement to violence, the Step-Up and ASK (Access to Skills and Knowledge) programs for supporting open knowledge and innovation hub development in South Sudan and Ugandan refugee camps, the #peacehackcamp engaging peace builders with media and open tech innovation as well as the #OpenTech4Life STEAM curriculum initiative in Karachi Pakistan.
