The #defyhatenow Ethiopia team gathered with the Heads of the Social Sciences Department, Research Committee members, and the Dean of Mekelle University to tackle the evolving challenge of information disorder.
Led by Dr. Yohannes Asfaw, the workshop explored:
• The definitions and dangers of malinformation, disinformation, and misinformation
• How the rise in false information impacts academia
• The critical role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in fostering truth and peace
Key discussion questions included:
– How can universities integrate digital and media literacy into curricula?
– How do we prepare students to navigate AI-generated misinformation without fear?
– How can research findings shape policy and community efforts?
– What roles should HEIs in post-conflict societies play in peacebuilding through media and communication?
This initiative is part of the #defyhatenow Ethiopia program, funded by the European Commission, implemented by r0g_agency and proudly carried out in partnership with Positive Peace Ethiopia.
