#defyhatenow project in Ethiopia
#defyhatenow Ethiopia is a peacebuilding initiative working to counter hate speech, mis/disinformation, and incitement to violence through civic engagement and digital literacy. Our goal is to strengthen democratic, secure and civil digital space in Ethiopia. We work with youth, women, educators, journalists, policymakers, civil society organizations, and grassroots communities to strengthen media literacy, fact-checking skills, and conflict prevention efforts in Ethiopia.

#EmpowerHer
Women’s Empowerment & Safe Space Networks
Support women-led organizations in creating safe spaces for dialogue and empowerment through training on online safety, digital rights, and conflict resolution. This empowers women to take leadership roles in promoting peace and online safety within their communities.
#MediaLiteracy
University Workshops & Media Literacy Initiatives
Collaborate with universities and educational institutions to foster media literacy and critical thinking skills among students, particularly in journalism and communications programs. This initiative builds the capacity of future media professionals to address dis/mis/malinformation and uphold ethical media practices.

#AFFEthiopia
Africa Fact Checking Fellowship Ethiopia (#AFFEthiopia)
The fellowship is building a network of citizen fact-checkers equipped to identify and combat false information in Ethiopia. The three-month program is designed to support individuals and organizations in media, peacebuilding, civic engagement, conflict resolution, and Ethiopian diaspora or refugee community engagement. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of hate speech and effective strategies for mitigating it in Ethiopia.
#HateFreeEthiopia
Support for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)
Provide capacity-building opportunities for local CSOs to conduct workshops and activities that promote peacebuilding, media literacy, and countering online hate. By strengthening grassroots organizations, we enhance their ability to engage communities in positive digital practices.
